Near Miss....

Okay, this one's an old one but it's as good a start as any.

 

When two planes almost collide it's called a 'Near Miss'.  Why?  Surely if they nearly missed then it's a hit?

 

*BOOOOOOOOM*

 

"Aww, look; they nearly missed...."
